Canada Day 2009 – Part 2

I didn’t have enough time/focus to finish the post yesterday, so here is the rest of our Canada Day outing at Storybook Gardens…
Our first stop was with Humpty Dumpty, a jiggly one at that, sitting on a stone wall. I was able to take a few pictures of Wendy and the kids sitting with HD. We never knew that he wasn’t firmly fastened on the rock!
Henry and the girls watched the otter while Wendy, Gabriel and Isabelle went to catch the last part of a puppet show – The Prissy Princess. We then went on to get a drink at the water fountain, followed by lots of sliding and climbing in the Pirate Playground. Gabriel was initially hesitant about going down a tall corkscrew slide that was pitch black inside until half way down. But after one slide with me he was eager to do it on his own. I got to go down with the girls a couple of times before leaving. We then settled in for a picnic lunch. We had just enough time to get half a sandwich in before it was time to go get some Canada Day Cake – courtesy of Storybook. Gabriel kept on wondering all morning when Canada was coming to the party! When Henry and the 3 oldest returned with cake we had our own ‘Happy Birthday Canada’ chorus. We must have amused those around us!
On our way out we stopped to watch the harbour seals. It was unclear how many there were at first. We saw one, then two, and then three. All of a sudden another one popped up! One seal was playing with a plastic bag, which we hoped he didn’t end up eating!
Before we could leave Storybook, the girls spotted a large frog prince. Without much cajoling, they each happily kissed the frog. Thankfully nothing happened.
Our last event was the Merry Go ‘Round. When we first arrived at Storybook Gardens we were planning to go for a train ride. But since it depended on the weather, and it seemed like it was going to rain, we decided to go for the Merry Go ‘Round (which Gabriel had wanted to go on last year) instead. We waited for a good two minutes and each of the kids got to choose a horse they wanted to sit on. Everybody enjoyed the ride, although at one point Gabriel asked if it was going to go on forever, and when I asked if he wanted to stay on, he gave a very definite “no”. I have to admit that after two times around I started getting dizzy, and was glad when it was over. Not sure how I would do on a real roller coaster ride… The girls were pleased with the Merry Go ‘Round, but it was Isabelle who loved it the most! She held on to the pole with both hands and grinned the entire time! What a great way to end the trip!
